Johnny Rockets at TU Center planning grand opening next week

You may have seen that the smashup of casual chain and sports bar called Johnny Rockets and Handcrafted Drafthouse & Sports Bar has already opened at the TU Center.  Steve Barnes wrote about it on his Times Union blog back in May.  Technically it opened May 18.  Anyway, it seems that they’re planning a formal grand opening bash next week, Thursday, June 22 from 3:30 to 5:30.The restaurant is inside the Times Union Center (51 S Pearl St, Albany).  PR for Johnny Rockets reached out to provide some details on the event.  Overall, it looks rather more interesting that most media previews or restaurant openings, which is neat to see for the community.

Mayor Sheehan will be doing a ribbon cutting.  The info provided talks about some of the interesting stuff they have planned (beyond tastings):

The celebration will include activities for everyone, including face painting for the kids to a chance to win tickets to a Florida Georgia Line VIP Concert experience. We are also giving away samples of the latest menu offerings which includes Johnny Rockets’ famous hand-spun shakes and some cool Johnny Rockets merchandise.

I dunno, like I said, looks sort of neat.  Unfortunately I’ll be out of town for work.  Feel free to drop by and check them out, whether you’ve ever been to the Crossgates location or not.

For more information, you can check out the official Johnny Rockets website and you can also head over to junkfoodguy.com to see a great write-up that Eric did during his visit to a redesigned Johnny Rockets in DC about a year ago.
